Experience
Since Anne Marie qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the University of Birmingham, over 30 years ago, she has worked in many roles for the NHS, including therapy, training, supervision, management, consultation and leading and developing services, across the West Midlands, in both community and hospital settings. She has mainly worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), for over 18 years and more recently in Adult Physical Health settings. She has additional training and experience working with “third wave” Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches, namely Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), as well as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Solihull Approach Model (Togetherness). Her specialist areas of interest include trauma, attachment, early intervention, anxiety, coping and adjustment, stress and loss. Anne Marie continues to work in the NHS with adults with physical health conditions.
Catherine and Anne Marie first worked together in 2009 in Solihull in an NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and for the Solihull Approach.
Approach
Anne Marie’s passion working with physical health conditions across the lifespan, understanding and alleviating distress, has developed throughout her career. Therapy can provide a safe, trusting, compassionate, reciprocal and containing place, to think and understand yourself and your difficulties and how they might be impacting your life and choose how to do things differently. Enabling children, young people and adults to open up, become aware and think about how they might adjust to and accept what is within their control and what is not, is all part of the therapy Anne Marie offers. Anne Marie enjoys working with clients to identify what brings meaning and value in their lives, helping them move towards what is important. She works best eclectically, drawing on different evidence based psychological models, most helpful for each situation, to bring about change and improved emotional well-being.
